Direct Admit Student Option
Carroll
College will admit freshmen directly from high school to an existing
undergraduate major (with a pre-Physical Therapy emphasis) and the
Department of Physical Therapy. Selection decisions will be based
on evaluation of the following:
- Carroll
College Application Form
- Application
for Direct Admission Form, Department of Physical Therapy which
includes:
- a.
The Letter of Recommendation Form
- b.
Two essays
- c.
High school and community service activities
- d.
Safety and Technical Standards Form
- Transcript
from an accredited secondary school which shows seven semesters
of course work. In addition, the following high school courses
must be completed by graduation:
- a.
Three or more years of mathematics
- b.
One or more years of high school biology
- c.
One or more years of high school physics
- d.
One or more years of high school chemistry
- e.
One or more years of high school English
- f.
One or more years of high school history
- g.
Two or more years of high school foreign language
- ACT composite
score or SAT total score
During
their freshman, sophomore, and junior years at the College, direct
admit students will earn credits toward undergraduate degrees in
established Carroll majors (e.g. Biology, Psychology, Sociology,
Chemistry) and minors (e.g. Biology, Psychology, Sociology, Physics)
with a pre-Physical Therapy emphasis and participate in activities
in the Department of Physical Therapy. Further information can be
obtained from the Office
of Admission. Students can also participate in the College Honors
Program and/or the International and Off-Campus Programs. If students
are interested, they should contact the Department of Physical Therapy
and Dr. Lynne Bernier.
To
advance into the professional phase of the program in their senior
year, direct admission students must satisfy all of the following
requirements during their freshman, sophomore, and junior years
at the College:
- A cumulative
grade point average in the pre-professional phase of the program
of 3.0 or higher
- A professional
grade point average (natural and social sciences) in the pre-professional
phase of the program of 3.0 or higher
- Completion
of the following courses prior to beginning of the professional
phase of the program in the students' senior year:
- a.
3 semesters of biology (Biology 150, 160, 221)
- b.
2 semesters of physics (Physics 101, 102)
- c.
2 semesters of chemistry (Chemistry 109, 110)
- d.
1 semester of computer science (Computer Science 105 or
FYS100L)
- e.
2 semesters of humanities;
- f.
1 semester of religious studies;
- g.
1 semester of fine arts;
- h.
2 semesters of social sciences; or completion of the liberal
studies requirements (LSPs)
- i.
1 semester of statistics (Math 112 or Psychology 205)
- j.
1 semester of English (English 170)
- k.
The majority of required and elective courses in the undergraduate
major
- Evidence
that the bachelor's degree will be awarded at the completion
of senior year
- GRE scores
- Participation
in a clinical experience
- Submission
of three letters of reference: one from a physical therapist,
one from a college professor, and one that attests to the student's
character
- Participation
in college or community service activities
The
program will not over-subscribe the direct admit portion of each
class, because it is expected that all students entering the program
through this route will advance into the professional phase of the
program their senior year. If for any reason, however, a direct
admission student does not advance into the professional phase of
the program, career counseling will be provided.
